Q. How many robotics kits will each school receive?
A. Codarra has a policy on providing one Lego Midstorm kit to every school that enters the competition. It does not matter whether the school has entered teams in previous competitions or not. It does not matter if the school holds a Mindstorm kit from previous years. Schools are welcome to enter a second team, however the second robot will be at the school’s own expense. In most cases a school’s second entry will utilise the robot provided to the school in the previous year. Codarra’s overall intent is to encourage creativity. The Lego kit is an essentially fall-back position to ensure that all schools have a minimum equivalent starting position.
Q. How do I get my NXT2.0 Colour Sensor to work?
A. Several teams have experienced problems with the new NXT2.0 Colour Sensor. The Colour Sensor can be used in a similar way to the older NXT Light Sensor to measure the reflectivity of a surface and it can be set to work with Red, Green or Blue light. Instructions for setting the Colour Sensor to light sensor mode can be downloaded here. These instructions were tested with the latest version of the Lego firmware - version 1.29 - loaded into the computer brick. The instructions probably work with the firmware version the brick is shipped with but if problems are experienced it is recommended you upgrade the firmware. Firmware upgrade instructions are here.
See the "NXT2.0 Sensor Data" page for measurements we took using the new NXT2.0 Colour Sensor.
